What is IMAX Enhanced? Why does it matter?
First announced in 2018, IMAX Enhanced is swiftly changing the game for the biggest entertainment experiences today. Some of this summer’s most anticipated blockbuster movies have and are being released in IMAX theaters: Mission Impossible, Oppenheimer, Indiana Jones, and Dune are just a few of them. Diehards will definitely see those films once – if not more! – on the big screen, but true fans will inevitably purchase those films on Blu-ray or stream at home when they’re available. And for that, they need the power of IMAX at home.
IMAX Enhanced is a vital part of the premium home theater experience. A certification program developed by IMAX and DTS to replicates the immersive audio and visual quality of IMAX theaters, it delivers object-based audio allowing sounds to be precisely placed and moved in 3D space, and exceptional video quality using a proprietary algorithm to optimize color accuracy, contrast, and detail for a more vibrant and lifelike visual experience. Devices like the Elite VSX-LX805 11.4-Channel AVR, VSX-LX505 9.2-Channel AVR, and VSX-LX305 9.2-Channel AVR meet the IMAX Enhanced certification criteria so you can be confident you’re getting the best audio video experience possible today.
IMAX Enhanced is here to stay – so invest in the tech now
More and more content is being produced in IMAX. It’s not just blockbuster movies that are getting the upgrade. For starters, Disney is investing hard in IMAX tech, so their Marvel and Star Wars movies are definitely being filmed in IMAX. But their streaming service, Disney+, is cranking out IMAX content as well, so you know other streamers won’t be far behind. Content released on Ultra HD Blu-ray are capable of having IMAX Enhanced content for home theater too, and I know that’s the version of Oppenheimer we’ll be purchasing when it comes out. (We love watching and listening to big budget films via our OLED TV and Klipsch Reference Premiere Speakers.)
Investing in a top-notch Elite AVR will mean that your house is the spot for the most epic movie and TV nights around. What are you waiting for?
